Hebrews 1
Be Still: Lord, would you help me slow down today. Quiet my thoughts and help me see you as you truly are – good, kind, and faithful. Amen
Read: Hebrews 1
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. (v3)
Encounter: For the last six years, I’ve spent a lot of my time ministering to and working with young people. One question that often comes up when reading through the Old Testament is – How is this the same God that we see in the New Testament?
Hebrews 1 brings our view of God into alignment with the person of Jesus proclaiming that: Jesus is the exact representation of God’s being. That means everything we see in Jesus – his gentleness, his humility, his kindness and compassion – tells us what God is truly like. When Jesus comforts, forgives, or shows mercy, we see God’s heart reflected in him.
This is huge because it means the same God who created the universe, who sustains all things by his powerful word, is also the God who bends down to care for the broken, the lost, and the weary.
Knowing this, changes how we approach him. We can come to God not with hesitation, but with trust and confidence, knowing that his nature is the same as the Jesus we see in the Gospels. And as we grow in that understanding, it shapes how we interact with others, showing the same mercy and compassion in our daily lives.
Apply: Take a moment to reflect on where your view of God might need to be realigned with whom Jesus reveals him to be.
Devote: God, thank you that Jesus shows me exactly who you are. Help me trust your heart, especially when I find it hard to understand your ways. Shape my view of you through the life of Jesus.
