Colossians 2:1-15
Be Still: Gracious God, speak to us through your word and guard us in your truth. Root us deeply in Christ and establish us in faith. Amen
Read: Colossians 2:1–15
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him. (v6)
Encounter: Paul reveals his deep concern for believers he has never met. His desire is that they would be encouraged in heart and united in love, growing into the full riches of understanding found in Christ. He reminds them that in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Everything we truly need is found in him.
Paul warns against persuasive arguments and empty philosophies that draw believers away from Christ. These influences promise insight or freedom but ultimately distract from the sufficiency of Jesus. The call is simple but profound, continue to live in Christ, rooted and built up in him.
Paul then reminds us of what Christ has already accomplished. In him we have been made alive, forgiven, and set free from the power of sin. The image of the record of debt being cancelled is powerful. The Cross is not just a symbol of suffering but the place where sin lost its claim over us.
Apply: This passage challenges us to remain grounded in the simplicity of the gospel. Spiritual growth does not come from chasing new ideas but from staying rooted in Christ. We received him by faith, and we continue by faith.
Today we can ask what influences shape our thinking. Are we building our lives on Christ, or on ideas that promise fulfilment but leave us empty? The freedom Christ gives is complete. We no longer need to carry the burden of guilt or prove our worth.
Devote: Lord, thank you that in Christ I am forgiven and made alive. Keep me rooted in you and guard me from anything that pulls me away from your truth. Help me live today in the freedom you have given.
