Hebrews 10:26-39
Be Still: Come Holy Spirit. Draw me into a greater awareness of your presence with me today. I choose to pause to encounter you now. Amen
Read: Hebrews 10:26-39
For we know Him who said, ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay’, and again, ‘The Lord will judge His people.’ It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (v30-31)
Encounter: Heavy verses. I wonder if your first thought was of the people or situations that have wronged you – or the wrong you have done to yourself or others?
‘The Lord will judge his people’ and ‘It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God’ don’t sound comforting at first – but they’re meant to be sobering in a good way.
This warning isn’t aimed at pushing us into fear-driven obedience. It’s calling us out of complacency. Out from the fog that blurs awareness of our wrong attitudes and sinful actions against others and against God. His grace is not permission to treat sin lightly or to drift casually away from him or his church. The same God who saves us is the God who takes truth seriously. Undealt with sin is like a slow poison, damaging our hearts. He loves us too much to ignore what damages our hearts.
At the same time, there’s comfort hidden here. Falling into God’s hands may be fearful – but those hands are the same ones that formed us, redeemed us, and hold us steady. For those who belong to him, judgment is not about rejection but refinement.
Apply: Where is there undealt with sin in your life? How can you share that with the Lord today? Seek his peace that he is the ‘living God’ who takes our sin and the sin done to us seriously - lean into the truth that his grace is always enough for us. Open your heart to his refining love.
Devote: Father, I trust that you are deeply invested in my heart, and you are always seeking to draw me closer to you. I choose to be in your loving hands today, trusting in your refining truth for my life.
