Luke 2:41–52
Be Still: Lord, help me to pause and notice your presence in my life. Open my eyes to what I may be overlooking and help me seek you with intention. Amen.
Read: Luke 2:41–52
After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. (v44)
Encounter: Mary and Joseph set out for a festival, expecting to be together as a family. It is not until three days later that they realise Jesus is missing. Imagine their worry, their searching, their relief when they finally find him in the temple, fully engaged in learning and questioning.
This story reminds me of times in our lives when we do not realise Jesus is absent from our hearts or attention until we pause and reflect or until circumstances make us notice. We can go about our routines, confident in our own rhythm, unaware that we have drifted from his presence. Then, like Mary and Joseph, we experience the gentle or sometimes urgent reminder that we need to seek him again.
Notice also how Jesus is found not idle, but fully immersed in his purpose, listening, asking, learning. Our missing moments may actually be invitations to refocus, to seek him actively, and to rediscover the depth of his presence in our lives.
Apply: Are there areas of my life where I have grown comfortable, routine, or distracted, where I might not even realise I have drifted from Jesus' presence? How can I intentionally seek him today?
Devote: Lord, forgive me for the times I do not notice that I am distant from you. Help me to seek your presence intentionally, to listen, to learn, and to trust that even when I drift, you are waiting to be found.
