Luke 3:15–22
Be Still: Lord, I pause to hear your words. Speak clearly into my life and guide me in truth. Amen.
Read: Luke 3:15–22
When all the people were being baptised, Jesus was baptised too. And the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.’ (v21–22)
Encounter: Jesus’ baptism is a pivotal moment in his life. Unlike us, he had no sins to confess, yet he stepped into the waters to identify with us and to publicly begin his mission. By doing so, he modelled humility and obedience, showing that even acts that appear simple carry profound spiritual significance.
The scene is beautiful. As he rises up from the water, the Spirit descends like a dove, and God’s voice affirms him. This affirmation sets the tone for his entire ministry. It reminds us that God honours obedience and intention, not our perfection or status. Jesus shows us that taking steps in faith, even when they seem symbolic or small, aligns us with God’s purposes.
There are moments in our own lives when we act faithfully without fully understanding the impact. Like baptism, prayer, or acts of service, these moments might seem ordinary, yet they are seen by God and carry eternal significance. God’s affirmation is not always immediate or loud, but it is sure for those who step forward in trust.
Are we willing to take steps of faith even when they feel symbolic, mundane, or unnoticed by others? The path of obedience may be quiet, but it is powerful and transformative.
Apply: How can I follow Jesus in obedience, even when it is symbolic, small, or public? Am I ready to hear God’s affirmation in my daily acts of faith?
Devote: Lord, help me to step forward in faith, trusting that you see and honour my obedience. May my life reflect your love and your purpose.
