Be Still
Psalm 46:18 (NIV)
Be still, and know that I am God…’
I recently felt the nudge from God to start spending more time with him in solitude and silence. As a student with a busy mind and lots on my to-do list, this does not come naturally. Some days are harder than others, but every time I come to God, to be still, the first thing I experience is his delight and love over me. Perhaps I’ll read a Psalm line by line, reflecting on each word, or some days I’ll just sit and enjoy time with my Father.
This week we’ve had the joy of reflecting upon God's wonderful love for humanity. My prayer for today’s devotional is that, wherever you are, whatever your day looks like, you may have the opportunity to meditate on the prayer below. Maybe even save this email for a quiet moment, when you can join me in stepping out of the busyness and into God's bliss and peace through the words below.
Read slowly:
Father, thank you that you are a God of love, that whilst I was still a sinner, you sent your Son to die for me.
Thank you that you rescued me from the mud and the mire, because you delight in me.
Thank you that your love surrounds me.
Lord, in this very moment reveal to me the height, depth and breadth of your love.
Remind me that your love is greater than my past, my present, and what is to come.
No matter how great my anxiety or fear, your love is still greater.
Jesus, keep me in your love. May I rely on your love, like a child relies on a parent.
And above all, help me to love others like you have so wonderfully loved me.
