Day 23 —  Waiting For An Answer

Psalm 13:3-4

Consider and answer me, O Lord my God! Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death, and my enemy will say, ‘I have prevailed’; my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.

William Temple once said, ‘When I pray, coincidences happen - when I don’t, they don't.’ What an incredible privilege, hope and joy it is that we have access to our heavenly Father to petition him to move in power on our behalf. Even in pain and discomfort, there is an invitation from God for his people to invite him in - to usher in his good and pleasing plan.

On personality profiles I come out as being 95% extrovert – I absolutely love being around people –  it’s where I thrive and do my best thinking. Unfortunately, as wonderful as it is, Zoom just doesn't cut-it on my relationship-barometer! Thankfully Jesus is present where we are, in each of our socially-distanced homes. We might need to schedule a Zoom call to ask our friends questions, but God is right there listening in the very room you are sitting in – poised and waiting to respond.

While it's important that we lament and allow ourselves to deeply feel the consequences of these strange times, a key step in lament is the invitation to petition God to act, move and deliver. Some of us find it easier than others to make the shift but thankfully scripture is packed full of helpful words we can ‘steal’ as fuel for our prayers:

‘Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.’ Ephesians 3:20-21
