Day 86 — Trust In The Midst Of Uncertainty

Isaiah 43:19
See I am doing a new thing, now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wastelands.

Last July, I was a fresh-faced, newly-qualified teacher ready to take the teaching world by storm. I just been offered a job to teach and all my plans were in place to be the best Science Teacher in Birmingham. God had other plans. Fast forward to March 2020, I had now left that job, started a supply role and was going into lockdown with a very uncertain future.

In the context of our reading, in the same way, the Israelites were facing a very uncertain future. They had just left captivity in Babylon and were headed to Israel but between those two points lay hundreds of miles of wilderness. I can only imagine the uncertainty.

There will be times in our lives where we feel like we are faced with hundreds of miles of wilderness, not sure what is coming next, unable to plan for the future. But God promises us that he will make a way in the wilderness.

In these verses God is inviting us to look forward into the future trusting in his promises. He is inviting us to trust him with the pain and disappointment of plans not going our way – but also to trust him with the future as there is an adventure waiting ahead. There is an opportunity to rediscover the areas where God is already working, to dare to dream for bigger things.

What areas of your life are you needing to trust God in right now?
In what areas do you see God doing a new thing in your life?

Prayer:  Father, thank you that you are the one who holds my future. Help me to trust you with the uncertain future and help me to see the ways in which you are making a way in the wilderness.
