Day 87 — Waiting Well

Isaiah 40:31
But those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.

‘Your package will be delivered between 08:00 and 20:00’
This is possibly one of the most annoying messages to receive from a courier company!

Waiting is not fun, I don’t think I know anyone that likes waiting, it’s hard work and it can feel like a complete waste of time that could be spent doing more useful things. We can sometimes approach the idea of waiting on God as the same process: hard, boring and not a good use of time.

This passage in Isaiah paints a completely different picture. We see that when we wait on the Lord, he will renew our strength and so much more. There is a great promise in the waiting. I see this kind of waiting as a something that is not stagnant or boring but rather something that is active and dynamic.

Active waiting looks like fully relying on God and seeking him constantly and trusting that he is working in the waiting.

What does it look like to wait well?

Prayer is a great way of waiting well. Through prayer, we bring our hopes, dreams, doubts, frustrations and fears to the One who hears our cry. Through prayer, we are acknowledging that we cannot do things in our own strength but rather need his strength, guidance and wisdom.

When we seek God in prayer, we are getting God’s perspective on situations in our life. Trust is another key process in waiting well. Trust means surrendering control and letting God work.Be encouraged, God is good, and he loves you and wants what is best for you.  Praise God that we have the Holy Spirit!

Prayer: Father, thank you that we can approach you with all situations, help us to wait well and draw strength from you.
