Going Viral

Martha is Kids and Youth Pastor at Gas Street Longbridge

Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

In Gas Street Kids we love a memory verse, and we particularly love a memory verse in a song! A few months ago, we did a series looking at the fruit of the Spirit, and so our memory verse was today’s passage.

Here begins the closest I’ve ever got to going viral. I found a catchy sung rendition of the fruit of the Spirit on YouTube, downloaded it and added some graphics. I uploaded it to the GS Kids YouTube channel and thought nothing else of it. Then the internet did its thing. (Please read with irony, I realise this is absolutely not what ‘going viral’ means but humour me.)

I’m proud to report that the video had 13k views at the time of writing! Yes, I can’t really take any credit for its success as I neither wrote nor recorded the song, but I’m strangely proud.

But if we put my silly achievements to one side, 13000 people knowing the fruit of the Spirit is life-changing because the fruit of the Spirit is life-changing.

Put simply, the fruit of the Spirit is what grows in us when we are filled with the Spirit. But it is also life-changing, world-shaping, and kingdom-bringing. Together, let's explore this life-changing fruit this week.

Maybe there’s a specific one of the nine fruit of the Spirit you know you need this week? Maybe one of them jumped out as you read the passage (or listened to the song?) Begin this week by inviting the Spirit to fill you and do what only he can do in and through you.

PRAYER - Jesus, fill me with your Spirit and produce in me your fruit. Help me this week to grow in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
