Immersed

Matthew 4:4 (NIV) —

‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’

Today we’re reminded again that our ultimate nourishment comes from God's Word. As Christians, we are called to immerse ourselves in it so thar we can hear the voice of God.

However, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life and neglect the very thing that sustains us. I often see a correlation between the ‘days missed’ on my Bible-reading plan with how connected I feel to God and my overall well-being. Missing out might be fine for a couple of days, but then it starts to show. It reveals that I’ve prioritised my physical needs and forgotten my spiritual well-being.

Without his voice in our lives, we’re left with our own thoughts, and while we may have some great thoughts, his are better. God’s Word reveals his nature, shapes our character, upgrades our thinking and reveals our future. His voice is the most life-giving source we can find.

Let’s remember today that there’s nothing in our heart, mind or lives, God wouldn’t love to speak into. Let’s invite him into our thought processes, to give us clarity and direction. Let’s invite him into the ordinary moments of living. Let's allow his Word to shape our worship, our work and our worlds.

As you spend time in your devotions reading his Word, take a few moments to stop, be still, meditate and reflect. Allow yourself to experience the reality of God’s love and listen for his voice.

Prayer — Thank you that your Word sustains me, it brings me back into alignment. Jesus, would you draw close to me as I read your Word today and fill any area of my life that is running on empty.
