Intentionality
1 Cor 9:26 (NKJV)
Therefore, I run thus, not with uncertainty. Thus, I fight not as one who beats the air.
I wrote this verse in my journal in June as it spoke to me so loudly about having an intentional pursuit regarding my relationship with Jesus and his purpose over my life.
I love the way Paul is making it clear that we need to realign our focus, to live each day with purpose, not uncertainty and to ensure we do not waste our energy on things that do not matter eternally.
Paul did not live his Christian life aimlessly and this challenged me to reassess my life and highlight areas where I may just be living aimlessly. I do enjoy a few too many podcasts, and a good old debate about whether the earth is flat or round!🤣 I admit, I do go down rabbit holes.
What rabbit holes might you be going down in your life that are, in effect, causing you to live aimlessly? It may be relationships that are not good for you, conversations that pull you away from the things of God, things you read or watch. We need to carefully assess our lives and do a 'spiritual health check' from time to time.
Paul challenges us to assess areas of our lives where we are ‘beating the air’ or in other words using energy on things that don’t matter eternally. (With that in mind, I may stop my unprofitable debates too!)
In this season, let us be focused and strategic in all we do, focusing our energy on things that bring us closer to God.
Prayer: Almighty God, we pray that we will run the race that you have set before us with intentionality and focus on you and your purpose for us. Help us to cast off the weights that may be holding us back in this race. In Jesus’ name we pray.
