Perspective And Perseverance

Galatians 6:9 (NIVUK) —

‘Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’

If you go back and read this week’s verses, you’ll notice that at their heart they are all about the same thing. We are called to serve God through gentleness and humility. Today’s verse is a reminder of God’s faithfulness when we do just that.

Around three years ago, an opportunity came up to leave my old job as a pharmacy dispenser and I was so excited for a new adventure. The date was 16th March 2020. One week later, a global pandemic sent the world into lockdown.

I was classed as a key worker, so continued in the same job, one that was growing harder to remain hopeful in. But when I asked God to meet me in my weakness, instead of in another job, I was challenged to continue to show his love and kindness to those who I spoke to. For some people I was the only person they would speak to for days and I had the chance to bring a little bit of lightness to them.

This verse is one of my favourites because it gives us perspective - through it we learn that perseverance can be paired with hope when we serve God and we will come to reap the rewards. Eighteen months later, I got the new job but with a refreshed gratitude to a God who was faithful to me.

The harvest does not come when we want or expect it but, when we remain servant-hearted, it will come in his perfect timing. So be encouraged, that wherever you are in your walk with God - he loves you and will be faithful to all that he has promised you.

Prayer- God, thank you that everything is made perfect in your timing and that we can trust in you. May we be filled with the joy and hope worthy of your faithfulness to us.
