Salvation Is Catching

Psalm 40:3 (NIV)—

‘Many will see and fear the Lord
    and put their trust in him.’

It’s Friday and we’re at the end of our deep dive into Psalm 40. Before we finish, I want to encourage you to re-read the previous verses. Slowly. We want to have the full picture in our mind before we get to our conclusion.

  I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.

Here’s the story of someone who was stuck, trapped in a hopeless pit. Jesus heard their cries for help, reached down and rescued them. He gave them safety and security in him. He gifted them freedom and creativity to worship and glorify him.

This isn’t just David’s story. This is my story. This is your story. This is the beautiful, simple Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our salvation foretold in just a few verses.

 But the best thing is, this salvation isn’t just for us. It’s for everyone.

 ‘Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.’

Many will see your rescue from the pit, your firm place to stand, your hymn of praise, and as a result will place their trust in Jesus. Isn’t that amazing? The idea that just by living out our salvation the people around us are invited into their own story of grace. It paints a beautiful picture of a never-ending cycle of salvation.

To conclude: as you read the beginning of Psalm 40 again, ask Jesus to open your eyes afresh to the wonder of his grace. That you would be able ‘to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ’ (Ephesians 3:18). Trusting that when you live in that truth, Jesus will gift that same truth to the people around you.

PRAYER –Jesus, I take this moment to remember my story of salvation. How you heard my cry and rescued me from the pit. That you gave me a firm place to stand and have gifted me the ability to worship you freely. Please use my life as a testimony so that people will see your work in me and step into relationship with you.
