Walking In Peace
Ephesians 6:15 (NLT) —
‘For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.’
Yesterday we spoke of the belt of truth and how important it is to let truth surround us. Today it's the Shoes of Peace.
I LOVE shoes! There is endless colour, variety and styles and, for me, nothing is more exciting than buying a new pair of kicks to wear out! However, I have a couple of issues with buying shoes. Firstly, shoes never fit quite right and secondly the price tag! No matter how expectantly I look at the price of shoes I am always shocked!
But the beautiful news is - the Shoes of Peace God gifts you are tailor-made and come at no cost to us. They are a free gift to you and today God wants us to start walking in peace wherever we go.
We can learn something about the Shoes of Peace by looking at Roman soldiers and what they would have traditionally worn. Their shoes would have been comfortable and sturdy - allowing the soldiers to walk miles without pain. The thick soles would have allowed them to stand firm on stony ground when facing down the enemy. As God's army the spiritual shoes we wear are strong, sturdy, and allow us to stand firm against opposition.
Shoes take us where we want to go and protect our feet. Imagine the effect the body of Christ could have if everywhere we go we wear the 'shoes of peace.'
Doesn't this show just how kind God is? He doesn’t let us go into the battlefield barefoot and vulnerable; he gives us shoes of peace to protect us and help us stay confident. Today, let’s advance onto the battlefield of our daily life unafraid, knowing that wherever we go to share the gospel, we are prepared and clothed in heavenly peace from God.
Look at the shoes you're wearing today:
Prayer - Lord, may these shoes walk in your peace today. Help me to be unafraid in whatever situation I find myself.
