The Power Of Truth

Ephesians 6:14 (NLT) —

‘Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armour of God’s righteousness.’

The belt of truth is the first piece of armour listed and I think this is because without truth we would be utterly lost. If we have any chance of fighting the devil and overcoming darkness in our lives, the truth of who God is needs to saturate our souls.

Let’s think about it - what do belts do? They surround us, hold us tight and help to keep our posture. And this is exactly what God’s truth should do - it should surround us and be so close to us if we are to be ready for spiritual battle. We must be held by truth!

I remember on a car journey as a child that whenever my Dad forgot to wear his trouser belt a family emergency would be declared and the next moment the car was turned around to head back home! Much more seriously, imagine our lives if we forgot the 'belt of truth'!

Paul reminds us in Ephesians to PUT ON the belt. This suggests that we must actively choose truth, actively take hold of it and instil it in our everyday lives. Why is Paul so insistent?  Paul knows that truth protects our hearts, minds, and souls.

I encourage us all to read the Word every day to find God's truth so that it is absorbed deep in our hearts.

The belt also holds in place other parts of the armour including our sword. Everything starts and ends and revolves around truth. Today, why not read some more of God's truth over your life in his Word? No matter where you are at in your walk with God, he wants to come and comfort you with his truth - that you are loved, chosen, set apart and worthy of his love!

Prayer- Lord I pray today you would help us be surrounded and held together by your belt of truth. May we be grounded in your Word and live in truth.
