You Got Something

1 Corinthians 14:26

‘What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.’

I’m going to let you in on a secret. Hold onto your seats because this is a controversial one. I’m kind of over online church. Don’t get me wrong, I very much enjoyed listening to the dulcet tones of Nick Drake expounding scripture whilst eating my crunchy nut cornflakes. But for me, there’s no substitute for being all together in person.

One of the main reasons for this can be found in today’s passage. Participation and contribution are at the heart of what it means to gather as God’s people. Church was never meant to be split into contributors and consumers. Paul tells us that when we gather together, everyone has something to bring to build up the church. Not just the handful of people on the stage or behind the screen, but everyone! If you turn up on a Sunday, God will give you something unique to share that will build up the church. It could be a word, it could be a song. It might be something to share with the entire church, it might just be something to share with one person. Either way, you are there, not just to be built up, but to build up others.

Have been back in person on Sunday yet? If not, make a plan to come along. It won’t be the same if you’re not there! Let’s all turn up with something to share and see what happens! Pumped!

Prayer- Thank you Father that you speak through all your children. Please speak to me today and use me to bless the church.
