Assemble: Authority

Matthew 10:1 (NIVUK) —

‘Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and illness.’

O what authority the believer carries! Jesus said that as a believer in Christ, one can say to the mountain 'be moved' and it will throw itself in the sea. As a believer in Christ one can say to this infirmity or that, be gone and it will bow to the name of Jesus.

We must not let the times when we do not see breakthrough rob us of our faith that God answers prayer. Our job is to keep on faithfully labouring to see his Kingdom revealed, no matter what we see or do not see with our eyes.

The key to our authority in Christ is making ourselves available to him. Jesus sent out the disciples to heal and proclaim the good news and they went obediently. They were simply the messengers bringing the word. It was Jesus who had all the power.

In the Christian life, we are messengers bringing about the activation of God’s Kingdom on earth. Where do you see injustice? Where do you see division? Where do you see unfairness? Who needs healing? Who needs forgiveness? We are sent with authority into each and every situation by Jesus himself. Therefore, go in the power of Jesus’ name and declare the captives free!

Prayer - Lord Jesus, send me with authority to minister to your people in need. Help know the authority I have in you and let me not be afraid. Fill me with power on high. In Jesus’ name.
