Excuses, Excuses

Exodus 4:11(NLT)

Then the LORD asked Moses, 'Who makes a person’s mouth?... ‘

I had been praying to God for a job for months and I had reached the final stage of the 3-part interview process, and now I was making a decision: I wasn’t going any further with the process. I questioned whether I'd oversold myself on my CV and during the previous interviews, because in that moment I believed there was no way I qualified for the role. I questioned whether this open door was an answer to prayer. In fact, I would save them the bother, I wouldn’t even submit my written task, save them from sending me a rejection.

But then I was reminded God doesn’t rely on my capabilities. If he wants us to do something, he provides the ability when we provide our availability. The long and short of it - I did submit the task and was offered the job straight away! Now, can you imagine if I'd succumbed to my own excuses and resigned myself to the belief that I wasn’t good enough.....

In Exodus 4, Moses was full of excuses as to why he wasn’t capable of what God was telling him to do. God was angry but lovingly persistent with Moses. Although his brother Aaron could go with him, Moses was still going to be the one God would use. God is fully aware where we lack, yet still chooses to send us.

Maybe you don’t think you can talk to someone about faith, start a business venture or go to that job interview but God is reminding you he created that mouth you will use to talk during that interview or in that encounter; he made those hands you will use to type up your business proposal or complete that task. It’s not about what we can’t do but what God can do through us.

Prayer — Thank you that competency comes from you, God. Thank you that my weaknesses and inabilities do not limit you and that you can still use me to carry your victory.
