Paths

Psalm 119:105 (NIV)—

‘Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.’

A study showed that the average adult makes around 35,000 conscious decisions each day. Naturally, each of those decisions carries consequences, some good, some bad! Some of those decisions will be easier to make than others: deciding on what you’re going to have for breakfast is usually a lot easier than deciding your next career move!

Today’s verse reminds us that when we don’t know what the right choice is, we should rely on God’s Word for help. His voice can provide the answer to our questions. It is the light to show us which path to take.

When decisions are tough, we can be tempted to create little mission-plans for ourselves, rather than offering submission to the path God has for us.

As we reminded ourselves on Wednesday, the key to right decisions is to immerse ourselves in God's Word. That’s where we’ll find the clarity we need.

The way forward for the disciple of Jesus as we navigate life, is to relinquish our own influence, embrace the newness offered and refuse to stay in the narrowness of our own personal narrative. His narrative for us is so much better, so much fuller and richer than our own impoverished devisings.

Today, as we take time to listen again to his voice, the voice that changes everything, let’s ready our hearts to step obediently into areas that the Lord has prepared for us. What comfort, confidence and peace there is in his promise that he has already done the preparation for us!

Prayer — God, would you illuminate the paths you have prepared for me. Allow me to see the next step clearly and help me make wise decisions.
