Taking It All The Way Back

Jeremiah 6:16 (NIV)

‘This is what the Lord says:

‘Stand at the crossroads and look;
    ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
    and you will find rest for your souls.’

I love making memories and looking back on them, and thanks to the help of technology, I can look-sync all my apps and look back over the years to remember what happened. More often than not, it is a really cringeworthy Facebook status where younger me is posting every hour updating my day. But once in a while, I stumble upon something I posted that reminds me of ways I used to connect with God when I was younger and which inspire me now to keep pursuing him.

Those ways may have changed over time for various reasons but a reminder of the foundations that were established then, helps me to keep going now. In these verses above, we can find foundations to look back to when we are at a crossroads and uncertain of our path.

David Guzik, founder of the Enduring Word app quotes this: ‘The ancient paths and the good way are the same; they are the way of repentance, reconciliation, fear, and love of God..’ (Feinberg). We are living in a time where new things come our way thick and fast and there is barely a moment to pause and reflect on the current ‘new’ thing before our attention is drawn to something else. What these verses are inviting us to, is to pause, reflect and go back to the foundations and walk in them.

Reflection – Take a moment to reflect and look back at the foundations that God has laid in your life.
