Wait…There’s More
Ephesians 1:16-17 (ESV) —
‘I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.’
My favourite TV show over recent years has been ‘This is Us’, an American series that follows the families of two parents and their three children over the course of their lives. As the story unfolds over time, we get to understand each of the characters better and gain an understanding of why they make certain decisions or act a certain way in the present and future. A revelation gives us more insight into a person's character and personality.
Here we see Paul is writing to the church in Ephesus encouraging and challenging them. He has heard of the evidence of the work of God in their church and he prays that they gain wisdom and understanding to know God better.
We, too ,can get to know God better. The more we spend time in the Word, the more we gain an understanding of his voice. The more we seek him in prayer, the more we know his personality. The more we fix our eyes on Jesus, the more we gain perspective and the more we are filled with the Spirit the more we can gain wisdom. There is always more to discover in God.
I'd encourage you to spend more time in the Word and in prayer. Get to know his voice, his presence, the depth of his love for you.
Prayer - Father, thank you that there's always more to be discovered in you. Guide us today as we spend time with you. Speak to us, give us wisdom and understanding. Show us your love.
